the concept of personal space is lost on 5-year-olds.

Have you ever watched 5-year-olds playing soccer? It is equal parts adorable and hilarious. Olivia plays on a little city rec league on a team called “The Power Ponies”.

There’s no score-keeping, just good ol’ fashioned fun. As it should be at this age, in my opinion. There’s plenty of time for them to worry about being good enough/fast enough/skilled enough later. I think the best part is when the opposing team assists with a goal, and everyone still cheers regardless.

I think we can learn a lot from kids sometimes.

Since Olivia’s games are in the morning on Saturdays, and I’m prone to sleeping in whenever I get the chance, I only had time for a 20 minute run before the game. I knew I needed to check my P90X work-out off the list, too, and was certain I’d do it “as soon as I got home.”

Well, then we had an 11:00 brunch at our friends’ house, and then pretty soon it was 3pm and we were still brunching, and then some other excuses got in the way, and then suddenly…

…it was 7pm and we were just sitting down to dinner.

Normally I would have found every reason in the book to avoid doing my scheduled work-out. But then John says, “Why don’t you go do it now before O goes to bed and I’ll do the dishes?”

Well, hello, you don’t need to ask me twice. I’d rather do just about anything than do the dishes.*

*Disclaimer: Time to come clean: I hardly ever do the dishes. Love you, honey.

So, before I had time to talk myself out of it, I threw on my work-out clothes and got to it. Olivia asked if she could “do the work-out with me” and how could I say no?

As challenging as it can be to have your 5-year-old on a constant loop of “look at me, Mom! watch this, Mom! look I’m doing it, Mom!” while you’re trying to just get through your exercises without passing out, it’s still pretty fun to have her get excited about moving her body and being fit.

Now if she could just learn the concept of personal space when it comes to floor mats.

What time of day do you like to exercise? I’d love to hear from you!

Love it! I too pretty much do not do the dishes…Michael was lamenting last night, “I am not looking forward to washing all those bottles again….” Busted.

Excercise? Well…I lost all my baby weight (and will do it all over again) by working out in the morning to my excercise tv fav trainers.

And what is this elusive personal space you speak of? I have not been in the bathroom alone for 2 years? And I won’t even tell you where Emma Mae sleeps!

I knew Michael and John seemed like kindred spirits! Girl, we got lucky (but let’s face it, they didn’t do too badly either :) I KNOW you will do it again and have been a motivator to me! You are amazing. Ha – I forgot about the fun in the bathroom! Oh, children. Gotta love ‘em.

My dog isn’t any better and I have a small bathroom as you know. And she also sleeps with me but won’t sleep on her side…nope, has to be smashed up against me. I tell you that 70 lbs of warm fur does not minimize hot flashes! xoxo

Hmmmm…… You never do dishes….. Gosh, I seem to remember some crazy dream I had about me doing your dishes….. Weird, huh?

Not only does she not do dishes – her entire life she has always found that she has to go to the bathroom when it’s time to do dishes! Very clever but ol’ Mom was on to her. xoxo

It must have something to do with the running water! It’s like Pavlov’s dogs! It’s not my fault, I am just conditioned this way.

Yeah I was amazed when I came in from working on the chicken coup the other day and the dishes were done. Good job on that. Now if I can just figure out a way to trick you into doing laundry…hmmm. Good job on the workout, glad you got it in as i know what i feel like when I miss one.

Your little girl is adorable! And I’m loling at the dishes and laundry comments, I’m sure my husband agrees that I’m obviously absent when it comes time for these chores to be done. Good thing he’s such a clean freak.

My little girl LOVES to work out with me. She especially loves it when I try to do pushups because that’s her cue to jump on my back and pretend I’m Princess Celestia in her My LIttle Pony adventures. Fun times.

I’m thinking of making it a new workout.

Thank you, Elizabeth! That is SO FUNNY about your daughter – and also that I knew exactly who Princess Celestia was. Oh, for the love of ponies….

I have to work out at 6am. It was miserable getting used to that schedule, but it’s done, out of the way, and no excuses. I am driving home when the sun is coming up, and looking forward to food and coffee. The rest of the day is mine, with no chance of a curveball throwing me off. Is that for everyone? Nope. Especially not with a 5yo and husband. ;) But it works for me. For now. Haha!
