coffee cart sabotage!

FITNESS FACTS:
Rest Day!
Here’s something crazy: this was the FIRST DAY EVER that I was like, “Oh darn, a Rest Day? I kinda feel like working out today.” I know, WILD!
_______________________________

I work remotely most days, but I go into my Seattle office one day a week.

Yesterday was that day.

I had seen the email going around that there would be a COFFEE CART set up for us as a treat on THE DAY I WAS GOING IN. I am putting this in ALL CAPS because I sure do love me a good, strong cup o’ joe (I live in the Seattle area, come on) but I’m laying off the stuff right now until I can get myself a bit more in check.

It’s not that I really mind a bit of caffeine in my diet (I never drink more than one cup a day anyway) it’s just that I need so much SUGARY STUFF to make it taste just right.

Wasted calories. For now.

Back to the coffee cart. I wasn’t too worried because they always set them up waaaay down the hall in another section of the office. Out of sight, out of mind. It would be easy to stay strong, right?

But then, we got this email:

Why should this give me reason to panic? Because “Bill’s office” is RIGHT NEXT TO MINE!

So all morning I sat and worked away, while that sweet aroma of tempting java wafted right into my door. BUT I WAS STRONG! Just when I thought I might sneak over and treat myself to a non-fat, decaf, sugar-free latte, the barista was already packing it in. Yay!

Here she is giving me a congratulatory thumb’s up for a job well done:

Phew! I made it. This day is MINE, people. I’ve got this.

But then, we got this email:

WTH?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

Well, I marched right into that main kitchen, averted my eyes, grabbed my apple out of the refrigerator and never looked back.

OK, maybe I looked long enough to take this one picture:

Take that, sugary pitfalls! I crush you!

PHEW! Dodged another bullet.

Who knew the office could be so dangerous?

The rest of the day managed to pass without incident. Luckily, I had a dinner date with one of my best girlfriends who happens to be HARDCORE PALEO so I knew I wouldn’t be lured into any more traps.

Here’s the salad I had at dinner. Are you impressed with my amazing phone-tography skills? I’ve warned you, this is not a food blog.

It was yummy, though, and wasn’t really this pink in real life. I got the dressing on the side and since it tasted too good to be healthy, I just dipped my fork into it for each bite instead of pouring it all over the salad.

CAN YOU BELIEVE MY RESOLVE?!

Also, this thing was HUGE so I cut it in half and got it to-go for tomorrow’s lunch.

And tomorrow is a new day!

Do you have any healthy snacks that you’d like to share? I’d sure love to hear from you!

You crack me up – “I crush you!”

My healthy snack favs, when I want something sweet, is oatmeal with apple, raisins, and a dash of honey.

For salty, I love my homemade hummus.

*disclaimer: I have not done any research on these new findings with rice* BUT, my go to “fill me up” is hot rice, with cold diced cherry tomatos, olive oil, s/p, and lemon juice.

There is so much food in offices. That’s why I don’t work. Just kidding. Sort of.

You are a rock! I like vanilla greek yogurt with fruit (I’m not a fan of the fruit in the bottom yogurt). I love nuts but it’s impossible to eat just 12. Who can actually do that?

Okay, see this is where I”m a failure, because I’ve been told that I should give up the coffee and my coke zero ( I know it’s horrible) BUT I CAN’T. I NEED IT.
So I keep truvia in my desk for sweetener, which I’m told doesn’t spike your blood sugars like any other sweeteners. But I’m sure it’s still not good in some other way that we haven’t discovered yet.

And for sweet snacks, I haven’t really been craving too many sweets yet- but I’ll do yogurt- or whole grain bread with peanut butter and honey for something super fast.

And I always always always have apples with me because I always get cravings in the most inconvenient times so I just munch on the apple to satisfy my hunger rage for that moment.

Girl, haven’t you already lost about 20 pounds?! You must be doing something right! I love Coke Zero, too. I think life is too short to give everything up. We need to be healthy but we also need to live and not get all rage-y and stabby at our loved ones when we deprive ourselves, right?! :)

Oh, I remember the office treats too well – so hard to resist! You are a rock star. I am loving roasted edamame right now – they’re a little salty, good protein, pretty satisfying (and I just ordered a truck load of them by mistake)! Your salad looked yummy too.

The Seattle Office looks like my dream. Coffee and candy? My main food groups. For a healthy snack I mix up some fresh fruit and organic granola drizzled with agave nectar. No I don’t.

Reedster, you kill me! I seriously just finished eating my 1/4-cup of raw almonds, unsweetened coconut and dried (unsweetened) fruit. For shizzle. How are you feeling?

I was all like, “I love snacks! I can write about snacks for hours”. But then I saw you used the word healthy, so I am out. Obviously. Unless frozen Buncha Crunch counts. Which I doubt it does.
Bravo to you and your willpower!
